What does hydroponics mean?

The word Hydroponics means “working water” (“hydro” means water &“ponos” means labor). Hydroponic growing techniques can be found throughout history in several civilizations. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without using soil. Hydroponic growing instead uses a mineral nutrient solution in a water solvent, allowing more efficient nutrient uptake process than when growing in soil.
